International Students in F-1 Visa Status

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN F-1 VISA STATUS

Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) encourages and welcomes international applicants. The International Student Program (ISP) supports F-1 students with admissions, orientation, and immigration advising. ISP also offers cultural programming at SRJC to build community between international and local students. SRJC provides a wide array of student services and can assist international students with course registration, academic counseling, tutoring, university transfer, and housing. SRJC currently hosts international students from over 29 countries around the world.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

SRJC is a two-year community college that confers Associate Degrees and Certificates. Students may select from over 100 majors, or choose a non-degree program and take classes in any area of study for up to two semesters. Most international students attend SRJC to complete the lower-division requirements before transferring to a four-year university in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree. SRJC has transfer agreements with the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Students who will apply for the F-1 visa must provide evidence of financial support, proof of English proficiency, and a copy of their passport to ISP. International applicants who will be under 18 years of age upon starting classes must also provide a high school diploma. International students who do not meet the English proficiency requirement can attend one of our partner English language programs and receive conditional admission to SRJC, pending the completion of the program. More information about international student admission requirements can be found on our website: international.santarosa.edu/admissions.

EMPLOYMENT

All international students may work on-campus during their first year of study at SRJC. Students may then apply for off-campus work authorization through the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) program. After program completion, students may apply to work full-time for 12 months through the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, prior to transferring to a university or returning to their home country. More information about international student employment opportunities can be found on our website: international.santarosa.edu/employment

MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE

SRJC requires all international students to purchase our health insurance plan.  Students are automatically enrolled in coverage at the time of registration. More information about the international student health insurance requirement can be found on our website: international.santarosa.edu/health-insurance
